Scaffold Testing
Independent on-site scaffold testing with certified results your principal contractor will accept, delivered within 24 hours.
Scaffold testing checks that the scaffold in front of you performs the way its design says it should: the ties hold, the components are fit for use and the structure matches the compliance sheet or bespoke design it was built to. I carry out on-site testing independently across Surrey, London and the South East, and the results are with you within 24 hours. Dedicated county guides cover scaffold inspections in Surrey and scaffold inspections in London.
What testing covers
- Pull testing of scaffold ties and anchors, with the load and result recorded for each one tested
- Checks that the scaffold as built matches its TG20:21 compliance sheet or its bespoke design, including tie pattern, bracing and loading class
- Condition checks on components: tubes, fittings, boards and ties, with anything unfit for use identified and recorded
- A written record of what was tested, how, to what load, and the result, that you can hand to the principal contractor or your insurer

Inspection, testing and anchor testing are three different things
An inspection is the visual, competent-person check the law requires at least every seven days. Testing confirms the scaffold performs to its design, which an inspection cannot do by eye. Anchor testing is a specific kind of testing covering the fixings that tie the scaffold to the building, and it has its own page. They are confused constantly on site, and each one answers a different question. What the inspection cycle requires is covered in how often scaffolding needs to be inspected.
Who it's for
Scaffolding contractors
asked by a main contractor to evidence that a scaffold performs to design.
Principal contractors
who want more than a visual record on a high-risk or long-standing scaffold.
Councils and housing providers
with scaffolds on occupied buildings.
Standards
Testing is carried out with reference to NASC TG20:21 and the scaffold's own design. Anchor and tie testing is carried out to BS 8539 and NASC TG4:25.
Qualified and accredited
Inspections are carried out to the Work at Height Regulations 2005 (Schedule 7), working to TG20:21 and SG4:22. Anchor testing is carried out to BS 8539 and NASC TG4:25.
